Located on both the Central and Mississippi Flyways, Louisiana's Outback is considered a duck hunters "grand slam" for its immense variety and sheer quantity (millions!) of birds. Fall and winter visitors include snows, blues, speckle belly and Canadian geese, as well as mallards, pintails and teal.
Public hunting is permitted at the Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Cameron Parish, and guides can arrange for hunting in the marsh or in rice, soybean or plowed fields. Hunters must obtain permits to participate in the various seasons-duck, goose, deer, dove, quail, rabbit, squirrel and turkey.
Hunting licenses are also required for all furbearers, and trapping licenses are required to set or run traps for beaver, bobcat, coyote, gray fox, mink, muskrat, nutria, opossum, river otter, red fox, raccoon, and skunk.
For a current list of hunting guides, please contact the Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau at 1-800-456-SWLA or view the outdoors brochure under the contact section of this site.
