"We live in the shadow of a danger over which we have no control: the Gulf, like a provoked and angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy, overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our land and spread chaos and disaster." From the Catholic Mass "Prayer for the Hurricane Season"
For residents along the Creole Nature Trail All American Road, the months from June to November mean much more than warm weather and balmy winds. This is hurricane season, and the people of Louisiana's Outback must remain ever alert for the next big storm and make preparations for survival. With an average of one tropical storm every 1.6 years, one hurricane every 3.3 years, and a major hurricane every 14 years, byway residents are well versed in a storms' effects on the corridor's economy, coastline, wildlife and its inhabitants.
